The Encryption Problem

Apple's security is fantastic for privacy, but terrible for legacy. If you die and your family doesn't have your passcode, Apple cannot help them. The encryption keys are on the device.

We see this tragedy constantly: a widow with a locked iPhone containing the last 5 years of family photos. Apple Store geniuses can reset the phone, but that erases the photos.

The Solution: Distributed Access

  1. Legacy Contact: Set this up in Apple settings NOW. It generates a QR code access key.
  2. The "Photo Vault": Create a ZeroLatch vault containing your device PIN (not just your iCloud password) and that Legacy Contact key.
  3. Local Backup: Don't rely solely on the cloud. Periodically download your library to a physical hard drive and put that drive's location in your ZeroLatch vault.
