What job can a journalist's dead man's switch safely do?

A digital dead man's switch can preserve selected research, verification notes, contact instructions and an editorial handoff for a trusted recipient after a sustained absence. It is best treated as a continuity mechanism: the recipient learns what exists, why it matters, who can verify it and what conditions must be satisfied before anyone acts.
